well the time finally came when i've decided to trash my 4.2 (at least for a while) and get some b*lls!...My friend has offered me an old Mopar 318 (similar to the 340 and identical to the 360)...for about $300...just needs a cam, headers/manifolds, and a way to mount it in my cj. Pretty good deal huh (i mean c'mon a full rebuilt v8 complete from pan to carb!)...Here's my question, any one got ideas for mounts?...where can i find some cheap headers or at least manifolds for this beast,,, luckily i already have a T-176 tranny and model 20 transfer combo i grabbed off an old 304 (the bolt pattern is identical, i just hope the flywheel from my 6 will fit the combo)...CAN'T WAIT TO FIRE THAT PUPPY UP!

Keep us informed on what you find out, Iīve got a garage full of Dodge parts. And have been doing some research on what fits and what donīt. Without a whole lot of success.
Using the stock jeep clutch disk, with the dodge pressure plate, might be one approach. If the disc is a little smaller than the pressure plate, it doesnīt really mean much, as long as the cut out, in the middle on the stock flywheel isnīt to large.
The MoPar, short style, van headers, fit pretty tight against the motor and might be something to look at. If you get a stock exhaust manifold, look at the early Dodge, center outlet, without the air injector tubes. Though if you have to use, a air injector tube type manifold, the tube holes can be tapped and plugged.
Let me know how the T-176 input shaft matches up to the motor (length and pilot bushing).
Iīve got a 360 Cu. in. HP (high performance)(police motor) orange motor, in the garage. High compression, W-2 heads, that Iīve been itching to stick into something. Iīve always prefered factory designed horsepower.
The 318 is a good motor, a slightly small four barrled carb. and low advanced timing. Seems to work best.
If you need any literature, Iīve got guite a bit, mostly for the pre 1980 type motor and ignition.[addsig]

Good choice on the 318, I have one in my 1978 dodge powerwagon plow truck and that thing refuses to quit. I had that truck perpendicular to the ground one year and the engine just kept going until I got unstuck. Man those were some good times......

yea...thanx you guys, lots of info...i was gonna start with stock manifolds out of an 84 ram charger (not where the engine came from) they have the center outlet as you said...i'm taking a really wild guess at the t-176 input shaft...i just figured it fit fine in the 304 and they both have the same bolt pattern...so there ya go sounds right to me...the 304 and 318 are basically of the same roots in design...i'll find out i guess. still need a solution for mounts and i seem to have found a cam for $140...wish me luck

good choice with that 318 , i had one in my 76 ramcharger { headders, 4 brl.} and that thing would not quit. i was thinkin of swaping out the 258 in my 84 cj-7 for one but i stumbled across a 1959 dodge 315 hemi that was in a neighbors barn and it's just screamin to go in!!![addsig]
