3rd stop light malfunction
I found out through my recent state inspection that my 3rd stop light is not working. I purchased a new bulb to see if that would fix the problem but it didn't. Fuse seems to be working as well. I figured it could be a wiring problem but i'm at a loss on how to fix it. Any suggestions on how to go about it? Anyone in NOVA able to help with this? Thanks!

Check the connection between the door and the body on the passenger side door jamb area. There's a 2 pin contact pad that usually gets corroded or get's out of whack from its position.

Re: 3rd stop light malfunction
I got through checking the connections from the tub and the swing door. The metal looks free from any interferences, corrosions, and even dirt. I've had a broken rear plastic window for over a year now and i've kept my back open the whole time. I'm assuming that the elements might've done some damage to the wirings.

Use a test lamp or a multimeter on the contacts to verify 12 volts.

Those meters are pretty cheap, you can pick a decent one up from radioshack or home depot for under $20.

Re: 3rd stop light malfunction
Leaving the back open should not hurt it. As long as you have no corrosion and the alaignment of the contacts is good you should be OK. My Jeep is open from May to end of October, for the most part. I've even had it snow in there.
As for testing... You can use the new bulb you bought and a little piece of wire. Connect the bulb across the contacts on the rear fender and have someone push the pedal. If you get no light then your problem is forward of there. My brake light switch (2005) has two poles (two swiches in one) . See if yours is the same and try shorting the wires across the switch to test for a bad switch. Best of luck - John
