I have a 1997 TJ, the basic SE model, 4cyl. My question relates to the mechanism that allows the passenger bucket seat to be released and flipped far forward to allow entry and exit from the back seat.

I foolishly allowed the lube on the seat track to dry out; action of flipping the seat became more and more stiff/resistant until finally I pulled it hard and something snapped. Seat back will now flip forward (ie recliner release cable still works) but entire seat carriage will not move forward. Looking at my service manual (p. 23- I suspect I broke the "Seat Track Release Cable," which I am guessing runs from the recliner release lever, through the seat itself, to the release arm. Has anyone here replaced one of these? Local dealer suggests the cable is only available as part of the whole seat, which I am not about to order.

Any suggestions or pointers? Thanks.

Sorry Dude a TJ is un known in my area I am a YJ owner. But it sounds like you are going to have to pull the seat and look it over real close for the answer. I am sure there is a way you are just going to have to get real creative. Tug[addsig]

i've seen this in another newer ride, think a pontiac. there was a cable that joined the main cable from the seat upright and disengaged the sliders from the floor when the upper cable was pulled sufficiently. sounds like you may have pulled one from the other.

may have to pull the seat/bracket out of your jeep and look into what broke.

i bet you can swedge another cable, if that's what broke, for cheep.
