I'm fabbing a winch mounting plate to go on my '95 YJ and was wondering if anybody knew what size bolt goes in the factory holes that are in the frame? There is one on each side under the plastic cover. I think they are there to mount tow hooks.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks[addsig]

Tow Hooks are mounted through the same holes as the Bumper. Right behind the Rubber bumperettes that are on the front, not under the Plastic cover that sits between the Frame.

I haven't a clue what size the bolts need to be. But I think you can find a mom-n-pop Hardware store and they will let you try out different sizes to figure it out. At least that is how I find bolts for mine

Make sure the Threads match also. If there are Bolts welded to the Frame like the bumper/Towhook holes on the frame.[addsig]

Yes, 1/2" course thread, and do use the threaded holes directly behind the bumper and under the plastic frame cover. Those, along with the upper bumper mounts, are where the stock hooks attach.[addsig]

Which brings up a good question. Where can one find hooks with the original bolt pattern?

Those two-holed hooks at WalMart and from ProComp aren't the correct size requiring drilling.

Many of the two-hole tow hooks are too short, only working on TJ's. Look for the 3-hole hooks and use the two outer holes for the YJ, or find some factory YJ hooks if you're lucky enough.

Here's my factory YJ hooks, and my custom winch mount :-D

I don't know your budget but you can get a warn winch plate for around 120.00 all hardware powdercoated nice units plus save alot of aggravation.[addsig]
