I have a86 cj7 with 4.2 engine and 5-speed trany. My question is what transfer case do I have and what lubricant? My Haynes manual lists three different tc's and gear oil called Jeep Lubricant No. 426xxx. What? :-? [addsig]
Transfer Case
Mounted behind and driven by the vehicle transmission, the transfer case transmits power to the front and rear driveshafts in 4WD Jeep vehicles and offers high and low range.
use something like 75w-90 in your dana 300, goldot, and on 747 i dont know much about YJs but i thought you used automatic tranny fluid... :-? :-? [addsig]

J, you wont be forgotten
I think you want to use gear oil, like 75W-90, in a gear box like the D300 in CJ's.
In chain-driven transfer cases like the NP231J in YJ's, use automatic transmission fluid.[addsig]
Heres an update from Jasper engines And Transmissions web site about what fluid to use in Jeep T5 tranny.
"TO PREVENT HEAD SET BURN UP WE SUGGEST USING A MULTI-GRADE CE RATED EN
GINE OIL INSTEAD OF A.T.F. "
Just thought I'd spread the word !
