The engine is idling around 1200 RPM and the idle screw adjustment is completly out.
There seem to be a bad spot throttle, if I force (gently) it the rpm goes and stays low
but as soon as I press on the gas and release it, it starts to idle high again. Is this
worth fixing or a new carb is the solution ?

Thanks

Benoit

I'd price a new carb, and see if it's worth it to you. I bought a pep boys rebuilt carter for my Jeep for around $250, and it lasted a year. I also bought a carter off ebay for $50 and it's run great ever since. If you have the money, and aren't worried with emmissions, I'd say go with a new weber (about $450 I think).

If you want to trouble shoot, I've found that it's always a good idea to put new vacum hoses on, doesn't cost much (although it is time consuming), and will cure any vacum leaks you may have.

You can get a replacement from autozone for $149, they are rebuilt by champion and well I have had some problems with them "viton needle stuck and mixture screws missing" but for the most part they are nice and you get a 1 year replacement warranty. But the problem your talking about seems like its related to the choke linkage on your carb. which connects to your fast idle cam.

check to make sure the electric choke is fully actuating "check for the fast idle cam linkage to be bent or maybe just a disconnected wire from your electric choke or at the temperature sensor next to the pressure sensor on the passenger side of the engine it chould have two red wires coming out of it. If its the sensor not working it will cause the electric choke not to function and screw up your idle characteristics. similar to what your describing.
