Center caps

Have the chrome center caps with the Jeep logo on the ends on the back, and the open ended chrome on the front. They have a fair amount of rust on them. Someone told me that you can sand them down and paint them. Will that work?
Also, how do you take them off?

To take them off, You have to take the wheels off. They should drop out when you do. If they just have light rust, You can clean them up with a fine steel wool pad and clear coat them so they won't rust again.

I did a quick ebay search, and there are over 2000 jeep center cap listings. I bet you can pick up a new set for under $30

I have an '82 cj7 with black "wagon wheel" style wheels and those same chrome center caps. They were also rusty and looked terrible...rusty chrome on black. I had my tires off while replacing the rear suspension and decided I would paint them black. Worked out fine, of course I scratched them a little when I put the lugs on oh well, it wasn't the first scratch and it won't be the last
