hi there i have a 1994 jeep wrangler, runs perfect aside a clutch master cylinder replacement about a week ago. the big issue is my fifth gear. once i shift into 5th it just revs, as if i were in neutral. im new at this jeep thing and my brother is a mechanic so ive always relied on him to fix things but id like to try on my own from now on but i know nothing about this. aside that i have a perfect jeep and i love it just wish i could fix that 5th gear problem its wearing into my already low miles per gallon distance.

Are you sure it's going into 5th gear? Are there any noises coming from the trans when it's in 5th?

It's common, the clip that holds 5th gear on the shaft has broken, allowing it to slide out of place.

The larger problem is chunks of the broken clip are loose in your transmission and could cause more problems. Your transmission will need rebuilt. At a minimum a new clip to hold 5th gear needs installed, but you'll likely need new synchronizers or the clip will break again.
