Starter catching on fly wheel!

Every time I turn my jeep on the starter rubs on my fly wheel and sticks there too long, also it slams into reverse all the time. Does anyone know of this issue?

No not directly but you should be sure there is no debris on the starter shaft keeping the bendix out. THe bendix should disengage when the engine is spinning at the same speed or faster than the starter.

This is on an 81 CJ7 with a 258 right? If you decide the starter's bad, they are pretty cheap:

Rock auto has a remanufactured starter for less than $50
1981 JEEP CJ7 4.2L 258cid L6 Starter Motor | RockAuto

The same thing's on amazon for $58 with free shipping

Slamming into reverse every time you start up sounds pretty dangerous.

If you get a chance, go here and fill out the details of your Jeep. That way it will be automatically included with all your forum posts:

And make sure the statter they give you doesn't have to long of a nose, or the gear is to long.

I went throufh that on another vehicle, the starter would bang the flywheel and stay in place when you let off the key. First starter had to long a nose and gear, second starter had a bad bendix and wouldnt retract the gear all the way
