This thing is killing me. I have a 72CJ5 and I need to replace the steering wheel and I cant get it off the shaft. I tried a gear puller and all it did was chip the bottom of the wheel. I built a puller to go on the spokes and still no luck. Is there a trick to it?? I am about ready to take the sawsall to it. There is no holes for a regular puller to go in so I am lost as to how and get it off. I bought a new grant wheel and getting the adapter today, so the wheel needs to come off. Please someone tell the the secret and stop me before I got to wacking on it.
Thanks
Warrior

Dont know if this helps with a 72. On an 82 you use a puller that has 2 bolts that thread into the center of the hub.Gonna help sully with his this week.

Thanks for the reply. I did get it off but not in a conventinal way. On a 72 there is no holes for the bolts on a regular steering wheel puller. I used two differnt size gear pullers with no luck, made a puller again no luck. The stearing wheel was cracked and broken anyway so I did it the Redneck way, I took a Sawsall to it and it came right off . Now I have a new Grant wheel and I can fit behind the wheel.
