i have recently bought a 76 CJ. ive noticed that the power steering is real loose. almost dangerous to drive. it is stock 14 leaf suspension with 31s and no sway bar. i have a chevy 350 mod with the chevy pump, but im not sure of the box. i was wondering what the best way to fix this is?

Check your ball joints, Tie rod ends, Pitman arm, drag link, and stearing box bracket. All of these can wear and get loose. Your stearing box could be bad too. The biggest problem I had with mine was the stearing box bracket. The factory one flexes a lot. I got one from MORE.

Also check the steering shaft. They can get worn at the slip and cause play in the wheel. You can adjust the gear lash in the steering box also. The is an allen head stud sticking up. Loosen the jamb not and screw that down. Don't overtighten it. Just snug it up.
