Problems with my Pro Comp Lift

I have been having a lot of trouble with my 4" Pro Comp lift. When first put on the Jeep it was very unstable to drive. There was some problems with the install the first shop did, the second shop I took the Jeep to got the Jeep to drive alright around town but it still get very unstable at about 55mph. The best I can describe it is it's like driving on ice the whole Jeep just sways and you have to have both hands on the steering wheel with a death grip ready for the Jeep to jump off course. We have taken off the ES9000's and put the MX 6 shocks on set at the softest setting no difference. I have built this Jeep for my girlfriend, but now I don't feel I can let her drive it for safety reasons. I'm so dissapointed in this system I'm thinking about having it pulled out and a SkyJacker put in.

The first shop told me this is how a Jeep drives after you put a lift on it. I just can believe that everyone putting a lift on their Jeep has these kind of problems. What does everyone else think about this? Is the SkyJacker a better Kit?

hello, and welcome to the board. i have the 4'' procomp and i never had those problems. is it just when you hit bumps that it sways?or all the time? check your sway bars. and also did they put the drop pitman arm on?(coming off your steering box). and how big are your tires. if you have soft side walls it could sway abit with wind and corners.

First is it a short arm lift?
Front and rear sway bars attached?
Also did you personaly check the front track bar for tightness?
All the tie rod ends tight?
All of these problems can and will make your ride feel like your driving on ice. Also there is some added in sway feeling after you do a lift since you are riding taller on the springs, personaly I only get that feeling in high winds on my TJ with a 4" long arm lift.
Your best course here is to lift the front then the rear and personaly check the axles for movment and loose tie rod ends. Making sure your front and rear sway bars are still hooked up and tight.
Oh and did you get the front end alighned after the lift was installed ? a slight toe in or out could replicate these very same problems here.

	Track bar A track bar is a component of a car suspension system that provides lateral location of the axle. While the purpose of the rear suspension of an automobile is to allow the wheels to move vertically with respect to the body, it is undesirable to allow them to move forward and backwards, or from side to side. It is this latter movement that the track bar is designed to prevent. It is a simple device, consisting of a rigid bar running sideways in the same plane as the rear axle, connecting one end of the axle to the car body or chassis on the opposite side of the vehicle. The bar is attached on either end with pivots that permit it to swivel upwards and downwards only, so that the axle is, in turn, allowed to move in the vertical plane only.

yeah... i've heard that the Pro Comp lifts provide a fairly HARSH ride on the road, but never heard anything about tracking/drivability problems... you probably have an issue OTHER than the lift here...

i'm with utah on this one... i'd say to check all the stability links and make sure they are all working properly.. and with the short arm/long arm deal... a short arm lift will cause stability problems if lifted far enough

Hi,

It's the short arm. The first shop left bolts in the suspension loose, The second shop went around and tightened up the whole suspension again. The drop pitman arm was on, but several calls to Pro Comp I was told the kit was designed not to use the drop pitman so it was taken off. The sway bars are all connected. We have 15 X 10 Mickey Thompson Classic locker wheels with 33 X 12.50 X 15 Goodyear MTR's. All tire wheel combos only took about 3.50 oz of weight except one. The one set was looking for over 10oz Goodyear said that was way too much, so they changed out tires, no diff. I called Mickey they also said this was too much, so they are going to switch out wheels. Front end has been aligned twice, on the way to the shop the first time I hit a bump in the road and was thrown into the on coming traffic lane. When the lift was first put on it was hard to steer at around 35-40 mph, the second shop worked on it now it's around 55-60 mph anything over that and it's a wild ride.

The Jeep is an '03 with only 1,200 miles on it when we put the lift on. So I don't think it has any other problems other than the lift. I just really don't know where to go with this right now. It's been going on about a month that the Jeep has just sat in the driveway.

	Locking Differential Provides even more traction than a limited-slip differential by “locking” the axle shafts together when the driver wants to do it. Locking differentials do not allow for wheel-speed differences and must not be used on dry, paved roads.
