Finally put in the motorcraft 2150. now, given its the 258, there are a whole bunch of vac. lines that need a new home... anyone got some advice? my biggest concern is losing my 4wd, which is still vac. actuated. also, some info on setting mixture and idle would be helpful. im just glad my carter is outta there. tommorrow is a day for tinkering

Wish I could help there but when I did mine on the old CJ it was a breeze thru! Not to many lines to worry about. If I were you I would do away with the front diff vacuume deal all togather and go with the home made cable system. You will be so glad you did if you do. Allows you to run in 2wd low range with 4wd on demand at any point you need it. Very cool mod off the road. tug

Look here for more info. http://home.earthlink.net/~stevenschreiber/cabledis.htm

where do i put the front pcv hose to? it needs a constand source of vacuum and. i see that there is a threaded brass fitting outside of the choke housing that is constand vacuum, but i think it might be for hot air from the manifold.

You may need to get some splitters or small manifolds to run all the vacuum off of just a few sources at the intake and carb.

okay, i think that i have all the vacuum stuff taken care of (hopefully) next thing is the idle. as for right now, i get a decent amount of rumble at idle, which is currently around 1000 rpms... sometimes it will fluctuate, not enough to make me want to investigate it. i havent done any carb work before so this is all new to me, but i havent messed with the idle/mixture settings yet, nor do i know how. any help would be greatly appreciated. also, i have to change my oil; should i adjust my carb before or after i do that? oh yeah, one more thing. when i punch the throttle, it spools up nice and quick, but it takes a while for the rpms to drop, any ideas why? :?
Thanks again.

OK start with the screw on the driver side of the carb. Turn it in till the engin starts to starve a little kinda loose the good idle if that makes sence. Then turn it back out 1/4 turn. then do the other side the same way. You can monkey with it a time or two but sounds like you are there now. If it idels at a grand and picks up the rpms nice and smooth then you are so close. Just listen the motor and readjust till it gets as smooth as can be. tug

k, its going well, i think im almost there. its running much better than the carter did, and i didnt do the bypass. I still need help with my pcv. i tried patching it into the manifold vacuum for the brake booster, but it was beginning to stall once i had to step on the brake to shift the tf999 into gear, so i undid that move. i also tried hooking it up into that inlet on the baseplate of the back of the carb, but its not providing the vacuum thats needed for the system. I have oily, stinky vapor coming out of the breather on the back of the valve cover, and vapor coming out of the hose that needs to be connected. ALSO, i noticed the same stinky vapor coming out of the line for the dipstick, even with it pushed down all the way. my oil is jet black and i think it needs to be changed, but thats the least of my problems...

sorry for being so long, but mom wants her caddy back in the garage soon and i wanna get this done.

thanks in advance~ Rich
