anyone out there with a yj ever get rid of your cataylitic converter,will it cause any problems,will it give a little hp gain or is it even worth the time???

Yeah, I took mine off my 2.5 and had a slight increase in power. Also gives off a great sound with a flowmaster or mellowtone muffler. Just put a pipe where the cat used to be. GET RID OF THAT THING, it is pointless.

if you have to go through the sniffer test, then you will have problems with inspection... otherwise, go for it... around here, we don't get sniffed... and if you do, find a mechanic that may be able to pass you. i hollowed mine out last year, i never have to worry about it getting plugged, i stole back about 1 horsepower, and the rumble/popping sound is pretty cool

mine is starting to go on my 99 tj I smell eggs every once and again
And I am assuming its effecting my mileage

I would not remove it just hollow it out. I know her in FL it is illegal for any auto repair shop to touch your vehicle if you dont have one on the vehicle and we dont have emmisons. This way only you know it is hollow. Even if they guess it dont matter as long as it is visualy there.

the most anyone around here will do is knock on it to see if it sounds hollow.. and you can get around that
