Brake lines

I put the brake line extension brackets on that came with my lift kit. My brake lines were pretty tight when I had my swaybar unhooked. Since then, I added longer shackles and am afraid the slight difference might be too much so I want to get some extended lines before I do any more real trail riding. Any recommendations?

Also, it seems my e-brake line is pretty tight as well, anything I can do about that?

	Swaybar A sway bar (also stabilizer bar, anti-sway bar, roll bar, or anti-roll bar, ARB) is an automobile suspension device. It connects opposite (left/right) wheels together through short lever arms linked by a torsion spring. A sway bar increases the suspension's roll stiffness—its resistance to roll in turns, independent of its spring rate in the vertical direction.

you can relocate your brakelines lower on the frame... and there should be an adjustment thread on the Ebrake halfway back inside the driverside frame rail you can adjust out

how much lift are you getting out of your shackes? just curious cause I just did all my brakeline stuff not too long ago, now I just bought some 1/2" lift shackles, yet to put them on.

I'm getting another 1/2" out of the shackles (4" total). Like I said under full atriculation, the brake lines were pretty tight before the shackles.

I know I should not post this but I will. I am running about 4 3/4 lift on a 94 YJ with stock brake lines and I flex the hell out of my YJ :-( I have the extended lines, and was going to do them but the union that connects the rubber hose ti the steel line was seized so I had to go buy all new steel lines, I need to replace from the proportioning valve down, then I started procrastinating and well, it has been a year now :-( as soon as it gets nice I swear I will replace them but till then....

These are from Rubicon Express for only $8.50 for the pair, for the front brake lines. I've got a set in the garage waiting to go on.

You can get the same thing from Autozone. The price won't be much different, but they keep them in stock. They keep misc fittings behind the counter in a gray box.

I got a set of those 8.50 extensions from ribicon express (by the way, wont be ordering from them again - no email confirmation on the order, no way to track your shipment - have to call them and took over 2 weeks to get here). though i wasnt real happy with them, came with no mounting hardware. I bit the bullet and went with the extended SS lines from THE MOrris Jeep 4.4 center I think the 2 front lines were 57 shipped to my door, they are supposed to be here today. Ill post again once they are on. I ordered on sat 1-10 and they will be here today 1-14. cant beat that.

I saw some of the tube ones on e-bay for $5.99. You can also get brake line extensions at most speed shops.

RE shipped the next day for me, and real helpful on the phone. Never heard many problems with them.

I like those extensions as an alternative! Being solid they should keep the brake lines spaced away from the tires as well. Much cheaper, too! I think that is the route I will go. I'll also get one for the rear if they make one.

FYI- You can order Rubicon Express stuff from them direct or through a dealer if for some reason you're unhappy with dealing direct. Lots of dealers out there. I'll probably just buy direct.

i had the same problem as you JPS when i went to put on my SS skyjacker extensions. i had to replace all of the hard lines. i didnt mind tho cause they were 13 or 14 years old at the time i did it. just make sure you use a proper brake line bender or the coiled sleeve over the brake line when forming it. They kink pretty easy when bare-hand bending em!

couldn't you just use a standard short brakeline with a coupler?

I am lucky cause my best friend has a brake shop so he got me all the parts except the fitting that goes into the proportioning valve cause I guess they are different for every vehicle, so I have to take mine off and down to the partstore and thread match them, I just need time to do this, but it is -10 degrees out and I am lazy!

Yes, if you're talking about the hardline extensions above.

Not to rain on anybody's parade but the brake line design on all Jeeps since the early 70's is stupid. If you look at older Jeeps you will see that there is no brake lines out side the frame to get tangled up in the tires. They used one flex line to go from the inside of the frame rail to the axle, which is closer to center and therefore does not move verticly as much, and then t'd to go to each wheel with a flex line at each knucle. So no lines anywhere near the tire to get ripped off and only one long flex line going to the frame. Just my $.02 and how I will be hooking up the brakes on my next project.

the reason they stopped that is anti-lock brakes need a line to each wheel to function properly....

Finally finished installing my new stainless steel frt brake lines today and I like em.Wont rub the tires even at a full turn - hooked up a carbuerator spring to the line and over to my shock boot ziptie. I had to grind the mounts off the top of the rail as they were both frozen. The extension would have worked but i feel better with the real deal on there. I think whatever works for your own needs and applications is the best way to do it. Main thing is that they stop you, right?
