Okay, I said it earlier, I bought a '94 YJ and I've had it for 3 or 4 weeks. I filled up about two weeks ago, and I just filled up tonight. My gas mileage was 8.59 miles per gallon . I know that a Jeep is not going to get great mileage like a car, especially being lifted 5.5 inches and 33's, but 8 miles to the gallon, come on! So, if y'all could tell me what your mileage is, and/or perhaps ANY suggestions on how I can get it into the teens.

Thanks.

My '94 4 banger engine is a piece of !@@#. This engine and a few other Jeeps that I have known have turned me off to liking any Jeep engines. My gas mileage is about 12 MPG. Put it this way, a jeep is like driving a brickwall down a street. Or it is like driving a car with a parachute being pulled behind it.

There is not much you can do to get better power or gas mileage out of a Jeep. Go for a K&N drop in filter, it will help a little and get rid of the cat converter and put on a free flow muffler. REmember your speedometer isn't wuit accurate, so you are actually gettting a little better than 8.59 mpg.

mine has been holding steady at 14.8 for over a year now no matter what i do to try and raise it. Ive tried the K&N, gutted cat, fuel injector cleaner, new fuel filter(mine was so clogged it wasnt funny)... nothing seems to bring it up

that fuel injector cleaner stuff is a joke I found. You do not notice any improvement no matter how many times you try.

12.6 MPG.

35' tires and a 6 cylinder.

Your only hope... re-gear!

You know your not supposed to use that fuel injector cleaner stuff more than every once in a while, right? It is meant to be used periodically, but not in every tank of gas as doing so fouls the spark plugs quicker...

As for Gas mileage... Absolutely NO complaints from me! My TJ Wranger (6 cyl.) has been averaging 15 - 18.5 MPG, and my Cherokee (6 cyl.) Always gets around 18 - 20 MPG average. It all depends on your drivetrain and how you drive it. I've had good luck so far with the good old PowerTech 6-cyl Jeep engine... sort of sad it's being phased out.

I know not to use it too often, I just have noticed it doesnt do anything. I notive carb cleaner will clean up the intake under the throttle body though.

Thanks guys for all of the responses. I think for now I'm going to drop a K&N filter in, and wait until theres a little more cash to regear. Oh, and when I regear, what gears would you guys recommend? It's my DD, running 33's, and like to play in the mud on the weekends!

4 cyl w/ 32" tires, 5 speed, K&N drop-in, splitfire plugs, removed airflow restrictor, Flex-a-lite fan, gutted cat, and manual steering (yes from the factory). I get close to 20 mpg on my commute (all highway), but city driving is between 15 and 17. It is almost as it was when everything was stock.

I made a run to DC this weekend and got 14.3 mpg on the way down using my crusise control, and got 17.8 mpg on the way back just using my foot. I have a 4.0/5spd with K&N FIPK, TB spacer, and a catback pushing 31x10.5 tires. My next mod is a flex-a-lite fan and possibly a chip of some sort. Though the 33's are going on next month so I suspect I'll be back down around 15 mpg again.

My '88 YJ, with 31's, 4 cyl, and 4.10 gears gets about 10mpg. I am soon putting on some temporary 33's, and then eventually getting 39's--so it might get a little interresting!!!
