I don't think this is anything really to fret about but I figured I'd throw it out there anyway.

98 TJ SE...when I bought in the summer found the steering box was leaking fluid. Replaced with a re-manufactured steering box.

Anywho..now its winter and fuh-reezing the past couple of weeks (of course I am in NJ and my definition of freezing my be different than someone's in North Dakota). When I start the jeep, and I try to move the steering wheel to the right, it's stiff... but not to the left, it's nice and loose. If I let the jeep warm for about 5+ minutes, the steering is the way it should be.

Could this be a product of the the re-manufactured box I put in? I'm kinda thinking its just a matter of the fluids getting warmed up and getting moving through the power steering pump.

I'm not too worried about it, but figured I might check. Once warmed up, all is fine..

Also, if it hasn't warmed up and I do move the wheel with force against the stiffness...could I be doing any damage to the steering

again, I'm a rookie at all this so please excuse any dumb questions.

Thanks

What is the weight of the fluid in the pump?

does it get better just standing still and running or it gets better from driving. If you have a steering stabilizer it might be that.

I was just thinking, check the tension on the belt. I don't if this would be a directional thing, but I remember that the steering was a bit iffy on my 77 blazer a couple years ago and it was a belt, after I replaced all the fluid and spent hours rebuilding the pump.

It does get better just standing still, warming up in the driveway. takes about 5-7 minutes.
