My gal complained her clutch was feeling a little spongy so I checked the clutch master cylinder fluid level and sure as heck it was low. I topped off the fluid level and think by the position of the wet spot on the ground the m/c is leaking not the slave. My question is can I replace the m/c without having to crack open the bell housing because its a 93 yj with the internal slave. If I must rip open the bell housing I'd like to replace the bell housing with a external type m/c, What year/type of bell housing should I be looking for if needed. Thanks, Frank

old man winter in N.C.

Hey! Nope. The Master Cylinder can come out without needing to rip apart the tranny in any way, shape, or form. There are two bolts that hook the MC onto the firewall. There's also the hose that fits in the top part of the MC. If you pop the pin that holds the hose (I used an allen wrench and a hammer) the hose will come off. Then all that's needed is the unbolt the MC from the firewall. Make sure you drain the resevoir (sp?) before starting, or it's gonna get really messy. I just changed mine on my '93 about two months ago. It'll take about an hour max.

OH! and remember to bleed the system! Good Luck!
