A Week in Moab!

And what a week it was!

We had 13 rigs and 27 people total for the week.

We rode Fins & Things, Moab Rim, Gemini Bridges, Metal Masher, Hell’s Revenge, Pritchett Canyon, Steel Bender, Rusty Nail, Golden Spike and Gold Bar Rim.

The Mighty YJ did great. Drove it there, ran trails, and drove it back. Carnage? Rear passenger fender flare. Good thing it is designed to be removed and replaced!

Pictures? Here are some taken of the Mighty YJ –

Coming down the Z Curve on Moab Rim.

Metal Masher after Mirror Gulch.

Hell’s Revenge – Headed toward Hell’s Gate.

Hell’s Revenge – Into a hot tub.

Hell’s Revenge – Tipover challenge.

Rusty Nail – At the top of RiffRaff.

Rusty Nail – Heading into No Left Turn.

Not all spotting went well, Sometimes an occasional hop onto a bumper was necessary.

Carnage –

We had some. Mostly small, easily fixed things. Not all, though.

We experienced a rollover on Steel Bender. The driver had a thumb throttle he set for a climb up a wall. He just missed the line for the obstacle, then he couldn’t slow the jeep to maintain control. The jeep ended up doing a 270 degree flop.

The dust is still settling.

We were able to right the vehicle. Two rigs stayed up on top. I stayed below and used a snatchblock off of a tree strap on a juniper. One rig kept it from falling back and the other from falling forward.

Righting the Rolled Rig.

We let the rig settle and checked fluids. It started up. It would not steer and the brakes had failed. The frame will need some tweaking. The steering column did not fit as before. We were able to manipulate it into fitting. The master cylinder was filled. It was started up again. We were able to back it up and steer it out.

The driver complained of shoulder pain. We used a tree strap wrapped around him to hold it in place. Tied it off with Molly’s leash.

We slowly returned on the trail via the way we came in. Rocking caused him some pain, so the trip out was done using the crawl box.

We were able to return his rig to his trailer at the hotel. We drove him to the hospital to discover he had a partial shoulder separation.

Still all and all, it was a great week!

Re: A Week in Moab!

Sounds like a fun weekend! I wish some trail like that was close by to take my 4-popper; althgouh I have to say I am still far away in my build to tackle something like that!
