86 Grand Waggy fuel problem...

I'm hoping someone can back up my hypothesis...

Vehicle: 86 Grand Wagoneer, AMC 360 V8

My brother was driving out of the sub, made it to the end of the street when the Jeep suddenly died. Got a tow from another Jeeper who lives down the street. It has gas. It will fire up when a splash of gas is poured into the carb, but then it will die immediately. It has spark. There is no gas getting to the carb.

My assumption is that the fuel pump has failed, but I am not very familiar with mechanical fuel pumps. Do they fail like everything else, or is this one of those "it's not very likely" scenarios? I appreciate any suggestions on the matter, going up to price a fuel pump now...

My past experience with mechanical pumps is that you are on the right track. Have your brother check his oil also I have had a lot of pumps dump fuel in the block when the diaphragm failed.
