What came in it and what tranny does it have? Should be no different form any other Jeep with an auto. I would try to replace rather than change due to the work and cost. Tug

258/304/360/401 all have the same bellhousing pattern, so it'll bolt right in. You'll need the v8 motor mounts if going from the 258 to a v8.

The motor mounts, trans bolt holes etc.. are all the same for the AMC v-8's. The intakes, valve covers, oil pan, pulleys, timing chain cover are all the same. Not sure about th harmonic balancer and flex plate. My memory fails me on that, but you can look at the part numbers in a 4WD Hardware bookk to see if they are different.
The heads and block are not interchangeable (yes you can bolt them up but that changes the compression).

Any AMC six or V8 after 1967 will bolt in place of one another. 232-242-258--290-304-343-360-390-401.
