    Jeep trivia time

    Okay, let's play Jeep trivia. Anything pertaining to Jeeps works.

    One at a time. Whoever gets it right first posts the next question. I'll start it off with an easy one:

    What was the nickname of the 225 CID V6 engine used in early (mid 60's to early 70's) CJ5's? FYI: It was used in some other Jeep vehicles as well.

    The ********* V6

    Dauntless

    In 1965, Kaiser-Jeep began using the Buick 225 in Jeep CJs. It was known as the Dauntless 225 and used a much heavier flywheel than the Buick version to dampen vibrations. Buick sold the tooling for this engine to Kaiser in 1967, as the demand for the little engine was waning steadily in an era of V8s and muscle cars. When American Motors (AMC) bought Jeep, they replaced the V6 with AMC Straight-6 engines.

    Applications:

    * 1966-1971 Jeep Jeepster Commando
    * 1966-1971 CJ-5
    * 1966-1971 CJ-6

    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buick_V6_engine#Dauntless

    So Bounty gets the First one

    Name the cartoon featuring a creature that is quick, clever, and irritating that some folks think the name "Jeep" came from...perhaps mistakenly so.

When asked by syndicated columnist Katherine Hillyer for the Washington Daily News (or by a bystander, according to another account) what it was called, Irving answered "It's a jeep."

    The marque has gone through many owners, starting in 1941 with Willys, which produced the first Civilian Jeep (CJ). Willys was sold to Kaiser in 1953, which became Kaiser-Jeep in 1963. American Motors (AMC) purchased Kaiser’s money-losing Jeep operations in 1970. The utility vehicles complemented AMC’s passenger car business by sharing components, achieving volume efficiencies, as well as capitalizing on Jeep’s international and government markets. The Chrysler Corporation bought out AMC in 1987, shortly after the Jeep CJ was replaced with the AMC-designed Jeep Wrangler or YJ. Finally, Chrysler merged with Daimler-Benz in 1998 to form DaimlerChrysler.

    The Original Jeep was manufatured by Ford also during WWII to reduce the risk of Sabatoge.

    Here's one I'd be surprised if any of you get:

    In that horrible Compass commercial they have a sample on it that goes:
    "They be bouncin' their Jeeps on the New York streets!"
    and repeat X 100 (or so it seems)

    Name the Group/Rapper they took that from.

    KRS-One "Steady Bounce"

    KRS-One's song "Steady Bounce", from his 2001 album Strickly for Da Breakdancers & Emceez, is played throughout the 30-second commercial for Chrysler's Jeep Compass which began airing in the US in July 2006. The commercial features dozens of bobblehead characters bouncing their head up and down while the song is being played. The sample used by KRS-One in this popular commercial is a sped up vocal sample which loops the phrase "Steady bouncing in Jeeps on the New York Streets", a line from 1990s rapper Nine's popular song "Whatcha Want?". Also in this commercial, the phrase KRS-One is seen on the vehicle's car display.

    The Original Jeep was manufatured by Ford also during WWII to reduce the risk of Sabatoge.
    The Jeep was originally designed by Karl K Probst of The American Bantam Company of Butler PA begining in 1938. The small company couldn't produce the quanities to satisfy the military's demands so the drawings and production contracts went to Ford and Willys. The Bantam Co started out producing tiny British Austin roadsters. See links...
