Anyone a good fabricator??

I am trying to get a feel for how difficult making this bumper is going to be. The guys at scorpion have a mandrel (sp?) bender, and can cut and bend up to 3/8" flat steel. I know these are pumped out by a CNC machine at the manufacturer,... does anyone with fabrication experience have an idea how hard this will be to fab without a CNC machine to make the cuts on the flat steel??

Thanks all,... really excited about this bumper,... although, want to make a few modifications for my specific wheeling style, so I would rather work with the guys at Scorpion Motorsports than buy it and have to start whacking away at it.

Any comments on the reality and difficulty would be much appreciated.

Jack

Re: Anyone a good fabricator??

Somebody spent some serious time prototyping that bumper. Every flat surface was probably a seperate triangle shaped piece of steel. Each welded together and welds ground off. At least that is how it would appear. The other option is that they took a press and bent some of the pieces before welding them to the others. Anywhich way, building a one-off is going to take some major time.
BTW..some mandrel benders won't bend much past 90 degrees. Check with your fab shop to see if they can bend a stinger like that.
I would take the picture in there and see what they say. Make them give you a price up front. Odds are when you start working it, you will make some changes and improvements anyway.
How much is the Fab Fours? Looked at Trail Armor or Bulletproof?

Re: Anyone a good fabricator??

Is it really 3/8th ?
Crap thats heavy, do you know what that thing will weigh?

I would think 1/4 or 5/16th would be plenty heavy.
Cutting that flat steel is no problem. Get you hands on one of those metal cutting circular saws. I have one from Miluaukee and it will cut 3/8 sheet steel. You just have to follow the feed rate on the chart. I can't help with the pipe bending, all I have close to that is a ring roller.

What machine are you going to weld it together with?

That material is just a hair under 1/4" and should be a breeze to cut and work with.
That will be tough and durable. I'm jealous
