Shooter on campus today

One person dead, one wounded. It's all over CNN. I'm stuck on campus for the time being.

Please, nobody take this wrong... but how in the he** can one gunman kill so many without two or three people saying.. Hey I'm not going to die today, not like this... and rush this guy and take him down? If, and only if the reports that he lined them up and then shot them are true, where are the Todd Beamers who look at a few people around him and say "Lets Roll" and rush this arse hole, take his gun and beat him to death with it?
My God are we a nation of people who lets one gunman kill 30 people without somebody trying to stop it?
This makes me feel horrible for those students and families and I will always question why so many had to die. If I am ever asked to line up at gunpoint, I would pray that God would give me the courage to do something rather than just accept the predetermined fate of a madman.

I know 90, I have the same thoughts you do. It's times like these that make me wish I was legal to have my CCW, because you never know when this kind of stuff is going to happen, and Blacksburg just makes that point that you never know where either. I cannot believe this, and it's actually starting to sink in. Ya'll just pray for everyone here.

I still don't think you can carry on any campus even with a permit. Bars either.

I guess you never know how you will react until put in that kind of situation.
It's getting crazy everywhere. There have been a rash of assaults and robberies here in Huntsville at the local malls and shopping centers (even at 5 churches). I guess you aren't safe anywhere these days.

Funny thing (not comical, but funny as in ironical), but the VA legislature had a bill on the table early this year which proposed to allow CCW license holders to lawfully carry on college campuses. It was voted down.

HAd it been enacted, there's a good chance that this shooter would have seen return fire after his first couple of shots. We'll never know now, will we.

The cowardly ******* took to the least threatening place, as a campus is off limits to CCW's. Had he had tried this in a mall he'd have never made it for 2+ hours... not in Virginia. Then the cowardly ******* kills himself. Well one good thing is it won't cost taxpayers money to kill him (VA has and uses the death penalty).

What a tragedy. What is it that is making these people go berserk?

Currupt, I've been praying for you since I heard the first reports this morning. Dude, you don't know how happy I am to see you posting here! There are literally tears of joy streaming down my cheeks as I type this....mixed with tears of sorrow for the 30 some dead and countless others wounded. Thank God you're ok. My whole day was just like I was in a trance, waiting to get home and see if anyone had heard from you. Thank God! THANK GOD!!!

I understand what you're saying, but unless you were there.....well, you just don't know what happened or how it happened or what those people went through or what they were thinking or what they did or tried to do.....so, unless you were there, don't imply they were a bunch of wimps that just stood there and took it.

Guys thank you so much, I can't even begin to tell you how awesome you all are. This didn't have much affect on me until about a couple hours ago. But now it's starting to sink in, and I think that after this there is going to be even more VT pride going around. I know I can't think of a better time to be a Hokie...
