Weekend Wheelin Pics

Did a little wheelin yesterday. The trails were mostly tame, but there were a few spots that have left their mark on my undercarriage. As usualy the photos never clearly represent the difficulty of the obstacle.

It's NOT Louisiana, trust me...

Re: Weekend Wheelin Pics

It's about 60 miles east of Fresno in the lower Sierra Nevadas. Also, just south of Yosemite as the crow flies. Here's a link to some grid coordinates and a map.

There's so many trails up there you could spend a month trying to wheel all of them. This is probably one of the tougher ones, but then again I've only been on 4 so far. The longest one I've done was the Swamp Lake trail and it's 13 miles. Next year I'd like to try the Dusy/Ershim route. It's 31 miles, but I'm going to have to get lockers and some more armor. Everyone I've talked to says it's tougher then the Rubicon.

Re: Weekend Wheelin Pics

Between 7 and 9 thousand. It was almost 100 degrees in the valley when we started down the hill at 4pm. However, that morning on the way up I was wishing I had the top and doors on almost. It was quite chilly!

I love being in the mountains when it's hot down below.

BTW, why, if heat rises is is cooler on a mountain and hotter in the valleys??

Good question....here are my theories....

1. there's just too much smog for the heat to rise above.
2. since the air is thinner at higher altitudes it is not as compressed as below. we all know when you compress something it generates friction, therefore, it must mean that the air on the bottom of the valley is compressed to the point that's it's always hot.

lack of atmosphere. the atmosphere holds in heat. less atmosphere less heat. if i remember right. sure hope i spelled atmosphere right. that would look dumb.
