hi guys ,just bought a 1989 jeep wrangler yj ,258 eng/at,real good body on it ,106,000mi,runs real strong too,have a webber 2bbl too,just changed the oil used 5w-30 amsoil syn,when i start it cold i here the rods chatter for a second ,i also here a ticking too when hot maybe a rocker/lifter?
i thought when i revved it up hot that i herd the rods chatter again till the R's went up,is this eng ok ,i mean like i said it runs strong????

Welcome to Jeepz..Could be weak lifters or worn camshaft.

had same noise in my wifes 76 mail jeep with the 258 used 20/50 runs smooth and quiet now or if your doing a valve cover gasket anytime soon check to see if theres any loose or worn lifters while its open

well guys/girls ,we know whats wrong,the connecting rod &crank bearings are worn i know its has 106,000 mi on it but to me seems a little premature,oh ya the timimg chain is worn too,so im getting her fixed.......john.
