    There goes the rear diff...

So I've heard about how weak the dana35 is, and didn't think much of it, till today... Mine kinda...exploded.

Re: There goes the rear diff...

Looks like one of two things happened..

the set screw for the center pin let go and the center pin slid out of the carrier and contacted the diff cover, hence the hole and then hit the back of the housing and chewed up the carrer and spit out the spyder gears

    or

the center pin sheared (quite common) and then same as above.

if you plan on staying with a D35, I strongly suggest just finding a used D35 with same gearing and if needed, just swap your brakes over. D35 shouldn't cost more than $100 complete.

    or

    good time to upgrade.

I was driving to fix a customers car that was leaking. I was going around a corner like normal and it decided it was done and went BANG CLACK CLUNK and locked up. And I am taking this as a sign that it's time to upgrade. Nothing flew out of the diff other then it's dignity.

Oh and I'm pretty sure the center pin sheared, as well as a couple other things.

If the d35 can't last with a limited slip, it's certainly not gonna last with a Detroit.

Crazy how light weight that LS carrier actually is.

I'm going to take this as a chance to upgrade axles. I'd done with the 35 for sure.
