Picked up a Power Wheels Jeep

I managed to pickup this Jeep off of craigslist for only $25. I've ordered a new battery for $38 - we'll be hitting the trails in no time. The max weight is 130 lbs, so until I can shave off a few pounds my kid will be driving.

I plan on adding a remote kill switch to it, in-case junior decides to make a run for it.

The battery came in and it runs like a charm. This is a newer Power Wheels, and runs off of a 12 volt battery. It's got two forward speeds, and reverse.

This things sells for $280 locally, so I feel pretty good for only having about $75 in it. I'll be giving it to my son on Saturday.

Nice Terry. How old is he? My 3 year old has a Hummer power wheels (got it for about $25 at a garage sale - which we got before getting the TJ). It doesn't matter because he says that my Jeep is his anyway. When he does I ask him for gas money - which I figure is only fair.

    He'll be 3 in august.

I actually got some parts in the mail today, including a remote transmitter that will allow me to turn the power wheels off with a remote transmitter. I think this is as much a present for me as it is for him.

Is that to give him the real Jeep feel of being out on the trail and something going wrong? Dad and son could get the high lift out and do some trail wrenching.

Re: Picked up a Power Wheels Jeep

I took a vacation this week and managed to upgrade the Jeep a bit.

I've added an on / off switch (by default it's on all the time) as well as a battery gauge.

The on / off switch is great for my 2 year old, as he won't normally stop when you ask - now you can just slap the button and turn off the power. I mounted is where an adult could get to it. I used a Daystar lighted on off switch

The power gauge is just a simple 12 volt gauge off of ebay. It was a bummer never knowing how much juice was left after a couple hours of riding

A nice upgrade is to attach rubber to those plastic wheels, better grip, quitter on pavement.Had a pick up for my son when he was younger.I took an old tire cut it to the width and length and glued them on.
