Manually locking the front axle
my friend welded the front axle so it's always locked but spins freely when 4wd isnt engaged. im sure it would only come into play when you're on the trails, but whats the +/- of that? thankssss

Re: Manually locking the front axle
front driveshaft always spins, loose gas mileage. but if its only used lightly on-road, then go for it !

Re: Manually locking the front axle
cheap traction. if you have locking hubs its not a big deal, otherwise it puts alot of stress on the axle shafts even when not in 4wd. it also cuts down on your turning radius and kills your tire life

Re: Manually locking the front axle
What year and model Jeep did your friend do this to?
I've had my '95 YJ done this way for several years now, works fine onroad and incredible offroad, climbs anywhere you point it
