Gear Ratio?
I'm just wondering, I have an 88 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Edition with a Dana 30 in the front and Dana 35 in the rear and I was wondering if anyone might know what the gear ratio is? I'm guessing that its 3.07:1 but not a 100 percent sure.

Re: Gear Ratio?
Tough call. Some of the Sahara models were equipped with 3.55 gears (My '91 has 3.55 gears but it's a 3 speed auto). It could be 3.07, which was very common for the 4.2L/5 speed combo.
Some ways to tell would be to count the teeth of your ring and pinion gears, or lift the rear and spin a tire and count the driveshaft revolutions vs one full tire revolution, or best case scenario if you can read the #s on the diff cover.

Re: Gear Ratio?
Your Sahara should have the Peugeot BA10/5 transmission, the better AX15 wasn't used until mid-year '89.
3.07 is the most common ratio for the 4.2L YJ with a 5spd tranny.

Re: Gear Ratio?
your gear ratio is stamped on the ring gear, well the number of teeth on the ring gear and the number of teeth on the pinoun. but you got to pull your diff cover.

Re: Gear Ratio?
If you're looking at your diff cover, thinking this is going to be a messy pain in the butt, look for a small metal tag atached to the cover with the cover bolts. Take a brass toothbrush, or something similar, and get the #'s off it. the tag should give you the model amd gear ratio. Some dana models give the ring and pinion count, but on smaller dana models you shouldn't have to do the math
