Crt Hei?

Hey, I'm thinking about getting a CRT hei for my 258. Is this a good swap? I also know about the TFI conversion, but I'd still be using my old distributor rather than a new one. What's better?

I've been hearing a bunch of complaints about bad gears on many brands of aftermarket HEI. Apparently they wipe out your cam...

No experiance with the HEI myself, but the TFI was great for me (and cheap).

Wow, thanks Jay. I had no idea about the gear. I did wonder about the quality since they're so cheap, though. So, I may go to the salvage yard and try to find a TFI donor. By the way, does anyone know how to check a vacuum advance to make sure it works correctly?

You can make sure its doing anything by just disconnecting it and seeing if your timing changes. Checking it's "calibration", for lack of a better term, would be much more complicated.
