I am a consumer and have my own reports from years of owning vehicles from various manufacturers. BEST 1. Subaru 2. Jeep 3. Hyundai 4. Nissan 5. GMC 6. Toyota Troble free with years of service. WORST 1. Eagle....Eagle talon. 2. Chevrolet....Chevy Avalanche Multiple catastrophic failures...

    New Jeep Wrangler JL revealed

I've had 2.0 turbo charged engines before and hated that they were interference engines, strong otherwise.

    New Jeep Wrangler JL revealed

I'm liking the overall appearance other than the turn signals and loving the engine options. It'll be tough to part with my TJ but I'll take a look for sure.

How do you guys battle salt / rust / winter?

Well unfortunately, the stuff the state sprays " magnesium chloride " is much more corrosive then salt. I use Fluid film and boiled linseed oil. Using boiled linseed is much easier and faster to apply.....you simply thin it with mineral spirits and spray it on the under carriage using a garden...

    Transmission leak

The first place I'd check is the lines then look around the pan. If your pan is leaking, I'd also replace the filter while it's off. Keep us posted.

    Question: Are Jeeps reliable?

Above posts are well worded which i agree. The 4.0 inline engine is a legend as far as dependability, over 300K is common. Some years have more issues then others , some being quirky to say the least, like the Gas over-flow. I offroad quite often and find Jeeps are stout . Jeeps are very user...

What's up with Mobil 1 Annual Protection oil?

I'm also one who thinks fresh oil and filter on a regular basis is the better choice. I'm a fan of synthetic though.

New to forum, old to Jeeps

I agree, the 4.0 may just be as easy to work on as the small block Chevy. Lot's of people swear the TJ is the pinnacle of all Jeeps, me included :)

    2001 4.0 Engine issue

Idle issues with the 4.0 usually points straight to the IACV " Idle air control valve ". Located at the throttle body, take it out and clean it, maybe 10 minutes. It's a very common issue but an easy fix.

    Tap/light knock

I know you realize that a manifold leak will make a loud pecking noise at start up and subside some after the engine heats up. Another quick way to check for ring wear is to remove oil cap while engine is running. I once blew my hat off doing this.....bad ring.
