I bought my 85 cj in feb. I did brakes, body, paint, carb rebuild, ignition module replaced, distributor parts replaced, bypassed computer , new fuel tank, welded frame etc. etc. I have everything back together and it will start, but when you acelerate it studders regardless of gear or speed, and when you get over 45mph it stalls and shuts off. orig had prob starting it a few weeks ago so got new ignition mod., then replace old distributer parts, then got new fuel pump and sending unit, but I have a feeling that the info I am getting is false. I just moved out here and have no shop equip. here yet so I need someone who knows what there doing so I can just get it to work, I have some names of mechanics in the area but I come from a family of hot rodders and I know that you may be great with a Ford, but don't know jack @ a Jeep.

Sorry I took so long to thank you for your info, I was waiting for the jeep to fail again and for the last few days she started without any problems until yesterday morning. I guess the keys are ok, she done the same thing with the second key. The neutral switch checks out fine, so I switch the starter relay with the AC relay for experimenting to see if I can chase this problem. It seems the relay doesn’t click all the time.

Do you remember someone talking about when doing oil change. Draining oil and then adding ATF and running for few minutes before changing filter and oil? It's driving me nuts.
