    Optima vs. Platinum

I've recently had my Optima Yellow top die--completely, without warning, and at less than two years old (and averaging about 1 off roading trip every six months at that--that's averaging about $45.00 per trip for juice). I don't know what happened to it, but I haven't heard any bad things about...

    Engine Suggestions

I don't know how hard a conversion it would be, but if you could buy a wrecked Wrangler with the 4.0 and transmission in it, you could buy both a larger engine designed for your Jeep and a transmission which should stand up to it. Somebody on here could tell you whether they could bolt up or not.

    fuel gauge quite

If it simply stopped working after a sudden jar, I'd look for a loose connection first--perhaps a ground wire?

Question for you law enforcement members...

I don't know what the law is in Illinois, but here in Tennessee, a third plea is possible: no contest, sometimes refered to as "nolo contendere." This is a plea in a criminal case (which even a ticket technically is) which is given by a defendant (you), which means simply that you do not...

    Barack Hussein Obama

As I said above, disagree with Obama all you want on political grounds. Whether this is or isn't sufficient political ground is for each person to decide. In fairness, I'll direct you to the applicable Snopes article: Urban Legends Reference Pages: Barack Obama and the National Anthem. Note...

    Barack Hussein Obama

Come now, let us reason together . . . . Think what you will of Obama politically, but I encourage all of us, in the name of reason, not to stoop to fear- and/or hate-mongering. I encourage everyone go to the Snopes.com link so thoughtfully provided above and read the ENTIRE entry. I wish...

    Name that 4x4

I cheated and followed the image links, but I won't take credit for knowing. What I am curious about is why do the directional tires on the front seem to be put on backwards--especially when the rear tires appear to be put on in the "right" direction? I could see that you would get a little...

Is it legal to tow a vehicle with no plates?

Contact your insurer. Often, they can cover a vehicle for one trip for a nominal fee.

Is it legal to tow a vehicle with no plates?

I looked in the Florida Statutes. Here are links to the most applicable statutes that I found: http://www.flsenate.gov/Statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_String=&URL=Ch0316/SEC530.HTM&Title=->2007->Ch0316->Section%20530#0316.530 (towing requirements)...

    Time To Lift

The only thing I would caution you about is not to spend a bunch of money doing a small lift, and then deciding when you get more adventurous that you really want bigger tires and a bigger lift, and therefore have to start over, essentially after having wasted the money on the small lift. I'd...

    What would you do?

How about the mil-spec J8? The Jeep J8: Egyptian military Jeep Wrangler All it's missing is a manual transmission (and a good low-range transfer case would be nice).

    LTBs

This is actually a follow-up to a thread I posted about six months ago. I'm currently running a set of Dunlop Mud Terrain radials (handle great on the street for MTs, but only average on the trail), but I want to go to a more aggressive tire. I'm looking seriously at the LTBs. I do general...

    Adding power sterering to '82CJ5

I added one to my CJ. A friend who owned a shop put it in for me. It seems to me it cost about $150, but that included a friend discount and was several years ago. Man oh man was it worth it. I run a front locker, and it makes a HUGE difference when the front axle's locked.

    Corvette power

Please pardon my ignorance of Corvette engines at the outset, but to the extent that you are considering a long block, note the cooling issues. I once went on a trail ride with a guy who had a 454 in his jeep who spent all day trying to keep it cool while idling on the trails (and this was in...

    Music

I've always been partail to the the Toreador song from Carmen, but as I have no music playing ability in my jeep, I'm confined to whistling. "Oh Fortuna" is also a great motivational piece.

Does anyone here turn OD off?

With many automatic transmissions without the "OD off" button, you can accomplish the same thing by simply setting your gearshift to the next lowest gear from "drive" (3rd in a 4 speed auto, etc.). I suppose that with a 6 speed auto (do trucks even have these?), the top two gears would be...

    Opinions on Lockers

I love my Ox Locker. You don't say which axle you're putting a locker on or what kind of trails you'll be taking it on, but an Ox is hard to beat. The great thing about the Ox among the three you listed is that it's selectable--on when you need it, off when you don't. That's certainly an...

    Tires

I think you had mentioned in an earlier post that you were considering modifying this jeep. Be sure not to buy a tire now that will be too small if you plan on lifting the jeep in the future. You'll be mad if you spend money on a set of 31's, then go out and get enough lift to put 35's under...
