    Vibration when driving

jack up one side of the rear end, with the transmission in gear. check the tire for any loose play. mine would move quite a bit with the worn out hub/axle. you could also try to turn the wheel. if its totally worn out, the wheel and hub will turn while the axle is held stationary by the...

    Oil Pressure Drop - 82 CJ7

probably a combination of a worn oil pump and warm oil. while the oil is cool, it is thicker and builds more pressure. as it warms and thins, the pressure drops. i only have about 3k miles on a rebuilt engine and it makes about 70 psi when first started. after a few miles, the oil pressure drops...

    CJ pricing question?

i have an 84 cj w/ a 258 i6, 4 speed manual, 143k miles, hard top, steel doors, and homemade rear rack (by a previous owner). the body is in pretty good shape - no dents, a little rocker panel and tailgate area rust. engine rebuilt about 3k miles ago. brakes are less than 1 year old, new front...

    Vibration when driving

YJ needs a new power plant Possible TJ? check your rear axles. sounds like the axle may be spinning inside the hub. i'd check the passenger-side first. i had a similar thing happen to my cj and found that the tapered axle/hub had worn and the axle would spin without turning the hub. i finally...

What do I check next, she won't hit a lick...

Bryanjeep's Jeep according to my haynes manual, the firing order is 153624. have you checked to see if you have fire? pull a plug wire and put a phillips screwdriver into the boot, hold the shank of the screwdriver close to, but not touching the engine block, or some other ground and have...

I know nothing about this Jeep!

deerhunter - your situation sounds familiar. i did exactly the same thing. got the venturi cluster disassembly/reassembly down to an art before drilling out the tubes. i could take the cluster out, clean the tubes with a torch tip cleaner and reassemble in less than 20 minutes. btw - no power...

I know nothing about this Jeep!

Tug - the carter is not the end of the world. I had all the common problems with the carter on my cj. Somewhere, either on this forum, or elsewhere on the net, I found a link to a repair for the bad-idling carter carb. The fix is simple. Take the choke plate and linkage off the top of the carb...

    Rusted hitch

Need help with my XJ couple of issues: Squeak Noise & Ga can you get to the back side of the hitch tube with a hammer and punch? if not, try some pb blaster and build a makeshift slide hammer to bump the hitch out. if all else fails, you could chain it to a tree and drive off.

    Engine dies while running.

1069617 I've got an 84 cj7 that would not idle below about 1800 rpm. I took the venturi cluster out and drilled out the ends of the little brass tubes. After that, I took the carb apart and cleaned it. You would not believe the amount of crud built up in the float bowl. Since I've done this...

    Engine dies while running.

1069621 Yeah, I had a little brain poot about the rain. Its been a long day. It could be a problem with the ignition control module. On my cj, its mounted behind the front driver-side wheel well. Maybe water is getting into it. Could you have a crack in your distributor cap? [addsig]

installing one piece axles in amc 20

1072043 I've recently replaced an axle in my 84 cj. It's a pretty straight-forward operation. 1. Jack up and support the Jeep. 2. Remove the tire. 3. Remove the brake drum and all brake parts. You'll have to disconnect the brake line at this point. 4. Remove the brake backing plate and...

shifter lever not attached at floorboard-how does it connect

1074595 I have an 84 cj also. jhiggins is right about the square end of the shifter. its prolly just worn from the years of shifting. i'd thought about drilling thru both the shifter and the piece that comes from the transfer case and putting a 1/4" bolt thru them to tighten it up.[addsig]

    wrangler coolant leak

1074799 one quick, temporary fix would be to take a pipe nipple and a couple of clamps to make a loop of the heater hoses. disconnect the hoses where they enter/exit the firewall, insert the nipple into the ends of the hoses and clamp tightly. this should get you home, as long as the leaks are...

    This week: Herculiner...

1075125 do away with the carpet and pop out the drain plugs - that'll stop the carpet from holding water. lol. Joopin - when I took the seats out of my 84 cj, i found out that i could get the bolts out without breaking them by backing them out about 1/2 turn, then screwing them in about 1/4...
