    shackles

304000 You don't want to torque your shackles! Just make sure they're on tight... if you try to torque them they'll just keep turning and turning, slowly applying too much pressure to the bushings. Good Luck, Jim 85 CJ

    Gear Ratio

351000 There was definately more than one gear ratio used, so its kindof hard to know what yours is... you can pop the diff cover open and count teeth, but reguardless it sounds like you need to regear if you want to be able to hang on the highway, which unfortunately is going to mean $$$...

    AMC 360 V8 BOOK

404000 While the jeep owners bible is a great book, I don't think it'll help you out too much with your engine. AMC never put a 360 into a stock CJ, so a haynes or chilton manual that is CJ specific is not going to be of much help to you. The 360s went into wagoneers, full size cherokees and...

    looking for info

443000 Are you looking to buy? If so you don't need to add a/c to a 99 TJ... just look for one that came with it from the factory... As far as colors and options are concerned, I don't know how much variation has occured since 99 (I think aside from a few new colors it is minimal), but the...

Buying a new jeep which options should i get?

483000 dana 44 rear! The sport seems to be the best package too, giving you the 4.0L six without the extra cost of the sahara. Good Luck, Jim

    What year? Which Jeep?

514000 If fuel injection is a priority then you should be looking at 91 & up Wranglers with the 4.0 liter OR 87 & up Wranglers with the four cylinder. Here's a website that might help yo out: http://jeeptech.com/ Good Luck, Jim

    Start-Up Problem

559000 Yeah mine did the same thing until I read about it in the owners manual... you've gotta hold the pedal to the floor for a second or two before starting it up (on cold starts) so the engine has some gas to work with. Also, I recently went from using 87 to 93 octane gas, and the...

    First gear problems

624000 What year and transmission do you have? I know that on my 85 CJ (with the t-5) you have to shift into first before you shift into reverse for the synchros to work properly.

How do I identify my transmission and transfer case

648000 If your transmission has a stick that is curved then its a t-4... if its a straight stick then you've got a t-176. Your transfer case should be a dana 300.

    Off-road tires

864000 I've heard good things about the Goodyear MT/R's... they might be worth looking into too.

    CJ7...Which year to get?

870000 I agree with going with a '81 or later CJ-7 for all of the above reasons, plus you'll get a stronger frame and maybe a little less rust than you would on an older jeep. Good Luck! Jim 85 CJ

    Buying a used jeep...

880000 Yeah specifically the front frame (under the 'jeep' frame cover) for cracks. With rust you can't be too careful... pull every peice of carpeting up to look at the floorboards. The rear body mounts are a real trouble spot as well on most CJ's.

Max. size tires on factory rims?

1040061 A friend of mine has 30X9.50 BFG Allterrains on his stock 90 YJ... they seem to work well and only rub a little when the wheels are turned all the way to one side. [addsig]

How fast will a CJ with a 258 go.

1040224 I have an 85 CJ-7 with 31's, 258 and a t-5 transmission. I'm not sure what the gear ratios are (although I would bet that they are between 2.73 and 3.31), but I've taken it up to about 75 mph once or twice. I'm sure I could push it a little more... but since my CJ is about as...
