1047062 no, on my 91 YJ there is a metal piece at the base of the shifter knob, its got 2 flat sides that you can fit a wrench over and twist that one way, and the shift knob the other way, you dont actually twist the stick of the transmission....but thats on my YJ, i dont know what the CJ5's...

1047063 try not to get too high on your horse pops, there are plenty o yj's and tj's out there that are equally or more capable then a willys anywhere you take them...the reason newer jeeps are more popular is its already a big job to mod up a jeep, but if you have to mod it and do a frame up...
