    1979 CJ5 I'm new at this

Actually part way through the 1978 model year the bar went from being mounted on top of the rear fender wells and bolted through the side of the tub to the main bar being mounted to the front of the rear fender well/floor behind the front seat. Also 1978 was the last model year that a rollbar...

    Is a 4 speed trans possible in a 74 cj5

Yes a 4 speed transmission can be used in a CJ without making the rear drive line too short, in fact Jeep used the granny low T18transmission as a factory option in CJs starting in 1972 through the 1979 model year; as such it is the easiest 4 speedswap you can do with your 1974 CJ. TheT18s...

    Clutch?

It sounds to me like the hydraulic clutch system needs to be bled. I would inspect it for leaks to as air must have gotten in somewhere.

Fuel pump at 8570 miles ... What the heck !

Not trying to insult anyone but when Fiat was given a billion and half of our tax payer Dollars and control of Chrysler by Obama for “management skills”, Fiat was rated number 20 in Europe among new car manufactures in customer satisfaction. The only way to get that low a rating is by going...

If you’re Nuttered it should look like this. If you’re not you should be.

T18 Transmission jumps out of 4th gear

Got Torque Stud? (aka: transmission stabilizer stud) It also could be the clutch alignment, bad motor mounts, and a host of other things but I would start with the stud and mounts. I had a T150 pop out of third after a professional rebuild but didn’t have a torque stud.

    Blowin oil

X 2. From the sound of how much oil you are losing I'm with Bounty Hunter. It could be a bum PVC but most often it is blow by if you have some mileage on the motor; I’ve seen the I6 go with only 60-70 K on the clock when not properly maintained.

    Diff. Locker

If you can afford it go with a selectable locker, either manual, electric, or air. With any of these you can be in four wheel drive but not locked up. Although that can be helpful on the trail in certain situations, the most important reason is streetability, particularly in winter conditions as...

    How to know engine size

Either side, under the motor mount, if its and AMC V8

    Finally , I have one.

Yooooo Hooooo! The only thing wrong with your jeep is the square headlights but I guess we can’t hold that against it for too long.

    Skippy rear end....

If it feels more like a power skip than a hop and you do not have a locker then it could be the rear-end going out.

    warn fender flare restore

Try Krylon Fusion. The only thing I’m not sure about is what residue is left on the flares from the past. Some compounds have silicone in them and paint hates to stick to silicon.

    Locker, front or rear?

I have Lockrights front and back. The lunch box lockers, although cheap, are squirrely on asphalt causing your jeep to hop, skip, and jump down the road to the point that they can be dangerous. In fact, to turn I have to be off the power or the jeep will just keep going in a straight line...

Brake Lights not working, everything else is!!!

Electrical of course involves a positive and a negative. The positive side is the power flow from the battery or power source to the item, such as a bulb. After the bulb is powered the electricity needs to return to the power source to complete the circuit; this is the negative or “ground” side...

    Cj5 shackle question

Using longer shackles to gain lift is always a bad idea; maybe up to an 1” is OK but nothing more. Think about the force placed on the spring hangers at the frame and at the spring eyes with the OEM shackles using stock tires sizes as the things flex. Add taller shackles and bigger tires with...

    4x4 problem

What happened? Did the 4x4 light come on? The most common problem is that the front axle lock doesn’t engage due to a vacuum leak. The fix is a new vacuum line kit but it could be the actuator motor its self too.

Jeep yj engine and transmission swap from a tj

I have to agree with jps4jeeps. If you want to swap out the 2.5 for a 4.0 the amount of work and expense doesn’t pencil out as you need to change the computer, wiring, motor mounts, radiator, etc., etc…. You would be better off to sell the jeep with the 2.5 and buy one with the 4.0. (Pain is...
