    76 CJ5 project.....could use some advice.

I posted another picture of the complete engine before paint. Its painted the ole AMC blue color. I'll try to remember to take pics of it later. Also, there should be a picture of a blackhawk.

I'm picking up my engine tomorrow. Pics should be posted. A friend also is wanting to sell a 4.0 to me with the 5 speed for $350. He is wanting to convert to a Chevy 350. The engine is solid but the transmission needs some work. I forgot to ask how many miles it has. So what do you guys think?

    76 CJ5 project.....could use some advice.

Thanks Jason, I can't wait to run a new cable harness. So when I get back home I will sending my frame to be stripped, ecoated, and powder coated. I have been thinking about my transmission and axle options. Whether I want to look and find a 4 speed or rebuild my 3 speed. Also, as I mentioned in...

    76 CJ5 project.....could use some advice.

So my ipad and a iphone jeepz app just started working again. I'll be disposed of of a while starting next week so I told the machine shop that my engine has to be completed by Thursday. Finally, some process to recovery for this jeep. I am too excited.

Looks Good! Have you crunch it up after wiring the engine?

    76 CJ5 project.....could use some advice.

Because I am paranoid about messing up the clearances on my rods and crank, the machine shop is going to help me assemble the bottom end of my engine. Before and after pictures of the block.

Also, the connecting rod bolts just got in today. Apparently quadratec didn't have all of them to send to me, and that is was took so long. I'll be taking them to the machine shop to be put on the connecting rods on monday.

Alright, its been a while but I havent gotten much accomplished in the past month. I did manage to find a 2bbl intake for $75. As a bonus the guy threw in the exhaust manifold as well. Pretty cheap compared to what I found on ebay. Couldnt even find one at any of the local junk yards. I found...

Anyone from MS get on here?

If anyone is doing a full rebuild like I am, let me know. I have found a pretty good machine shop and I have been trying to get some good, reliable sources around the Jackson area. I found a place that will strip, ecoat, and/or power coat frames and bodies as well as some miscellaneous parts...

    76 CJ5 project.....could use some advice.

While I am waiting for some more parts to come in, I am looking for others and gathering information. I have always been told that when rebuilding an engine to replace the head bolts. I have only found one source for head bolts and that is summit racing. $62 for the lot. Just bought new push...

Me too. But, in the long run it is worth it. Ecoat gets in every crevice, nook, and cranny on the body and protects from rust.

Went by Metal Finishings today. They had a few high profile restorations in there and a large facility. Larger than what they need but the part of town they are in it can be afforded. They showed me a CJ7 tub that was just stripped to bear metal so apparently someone in the local area is doing...

Thanks Superj. Please do keep me informed on the wiring. The big news so far on my body and frame. I have found a place that will strip the body and frame, Ecoat them, and then I can have them powder coat the frame. All this is depending on price of course. www.metalfinishings.com . I will be...

    76 CJ5 project.....could use some advice.

While im waiting for my engine to be complete, I'm looking for a local frame shop. I hope I can get it dipped. If not then like you said Greg, wire wheel and elbow grease. Just looking at it, it seems pretty solid. All in all I'm pretty satisfied with it. I will be bringing the body to a friends...

Roll cages, nerf bars, and bumpers

I have a 6 point cage that came with my 76. I don't know a brand or much else than that. I've been told that I can get extensions for the front mounts so that it would actually be mounting to the frame. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Roll cages, nerf bars, and bumpers

Lets talk about safety. Any input is welcome. I have driven some ratty vehicles including my 74 Cj5 that if I pushed the clutch in, the body would lift an inch. If I tried hard enough, I'm sure I could have kicked a whole in the floor. A little wiser now. I'd like to see some setups and hear...
