We swapped a blown 304 for 318 with 360 heads and progressive 4bbl old cop motor. What a fun rude that was. MPG about the same as 304.

The amc 304,360,401 are all the same block. So they will swap. You might look into putting efi on it. Help when flexed and help the mileage

Had a 99 xj do that had to take the handle apart broken piece of plastic in there.

You may have a vacuum leak. That will effect timing. Also sounds like a dirty fuel filter.

Rebuilt one of my xjs. 92 xj Laredo. Fresh 4.8 stroker, fresh 1990 aw4 with supra valve body. Fresh np231 HD. The Transmission won't shift out of 1st gear with the 92 tcm. The 90 tcm won't plug in. Got 3 other tcm's from 92-95 no change. Transmission manual shifts fine even od. Any suggestions?

Got a 92 xj here. Had same issue. Finally got tired of the weak xj wiring and bought the off road relay kit from Autozone. Fixed
