well, i have a new problem. The ~5 volts going to the o2 sensor is not a steady 5 volts. It changes between 2 to 5 volts. :(

I had a bad sensor. Found a used one and put it on and tested it and I had voltage out of the signal wire. I could not get a voltage reading out of the old one.

I have a 89 4.0L I have been testing all the sensors today and all seem to be ok according to the Chiltons manual exept the O2. It say's the voltage should be fluctuating .40 and .06. Mine tests about 4.8 to 5 volts. Is this possible?

Well I found a bad ground wire, the main one from the battery to the block. The plastic is hard and falling and the wires are discolerd right by the block. So I get to replace that. :roll: Thanks for the help.

oops :roll: sorry about that, It's a 89 Cherokee 4.0L 5 speed. When I first start it It idles around 800 for about 2 minutes then it gradually goes up to 1500 and stays for 15 to 20 minutes. What should I test first?

It's 50 degrees out why does this thing want to idle at 1500 for an half hour?!?!?!

I can get a 4.0l high output motor for really cheap, What I need to know is what do need to change to put this motor in my 89 4.0? The motor came out of an 90's Jeep. Do I need the computer for the 90's Jeep or will the engine run with the existing computer my 89? Thanks

Thanks, My dad gave the jeep to me since I helped him put he motor in it when he got it a couple of years ago. My first jeep and I like it alot.
