1997 xj shifting problems

I'm having shifting problems on my xj when I drive it in drive I get 1-2 but when it tries to go to third it skips it and goes to overdrive I need help. And also if I hook it up to the modis the rpm output goes from zero to 1500 Rpms real quick

I can shift it manually and it works just fine

Sounds like the same problem I'm having. But mines from 1st to second if I shift manually it works fine but I have to basically launch it in first and hit second
