Over heating ?

My cj7 304 seems to be over heating by what the gauge says but I can take the radiator cap off with no problem ? Any suggestions ?

Air in he system trapped near the sending unit. Or bad sending unit.

Either a bad sending unit or a bad ground..

This would be a real issue, if the thermo didn't open or fail open. Something else (next weakest link) will fail or leak due to the increased pressure. Rad or heater hose..,
