Originally had problem with 2006 Jeep Wrangler starting... replaced fuel pump and cured that problem. A few months down the road the gauge starts acting up.... says it needs gas when it has gas... replaced fuel pump again and still have problem. Any ideas what I need to do?

Bad sending unit? Bad ground? Loose wire?

More details about how the guage seems to work as tank goes from full to empty...?

There is a known issue with the float. With a overly full tank you may gat a zero gas reading until the level drops below the bad area in the float. You might see the gage drop and later (after using some gas) the gage will spring up to just less than full. As far as I know there are no performance drawbacks from this condition.
