Desirable? Undesirable? Indifferent?
Found a CJ with one, curious what the
masses think about that kind of swap.
I drive a 4.3 S10. I love the GM 4.3s.

I too love the GM 4.3L, it's a great engine, got one in our boat, lots of power. I've swapped in a 350 before, and if I ever do it again, it'll be the 4.3L.

Or maybe the new 4.2L I6 that's in the new TrailBlazers and Envoys, 275hp out of a small light package. Smaller and lighter than Jeep's 4.2L. We've got a TrailBlazer, and it's got an awesome engine. If you like the 4.3L, you'll really like the 4.2L.[addsig]

Oh, yeah, I bet the new GM 4.2 would be sweet.

I know the problem with engine swaps is you get
to deal with a non-factory motor now. But I have
a 4.3, know lots of people with 4.3s, so I imagine
finding motor help would not be a problem.

I'd get the engine, transmission, transfer case, computer, and wiring harness from the donor vehicle. This will save time and $$, and use fewer adapters.

I'd find a 4wd S10 pickup or Blazer with a 5-speed for a donor if it were me, and use the newest Vortec 4.3L I could find. I bet the GM 4.2L would be expensive if you could even find one in a yard.[addsig]

I think my initial question was missed. :)

I found a CJ7 forsale that already has had the
Novak 4.3 conversion w/ T-18 and Dana 300.
(Dana 300 is factory in '80, the T-18 was not.)

The 4.3 is a TBI setup. I think early TBI 4.3s
even had more juice than the factory 304 V8s.
(And, I assume, should be easier on the gas.)

I know there are pros/cons to buying a vehicle
that already had an engine/transmission swap, but I
was curious what people thought about this? I
imagine it cannot be TOO bad, since it is not a
swap that is really uncommon.

My main worry is figuring out what is stock and
what is not when it comes to any transmission repairs.
I am not really worried about the engine. But I
believe the CJ world is pretty helpful, and that I
can probably find help when it is necessary. :)

How long has the 4.3L been in that Jeep, kinda determines if all the bugs are worked out. Shouldn't be harder to maintain or troubleshoot that any other CJ, since Jeep managed to use parts from all different manufacturer's through the years anyway.[addsig]
