Sqeaking when startup, don't know??

Okay first and foremost thanks for making the site because people like me love jeeps and don't know what's going on when they break. Glad to be in the family. I'm a marine, got myself a 06 jeep wrangler unlimited.

After a trip to GA of about 400 miles or more, when i got back, the engine started sqeaking when i started it up, almost like a belt or pulley but i don't know exactly because i can't get good time to get down there and mess with it. I was wondering if it is a comon problem for them to sqeak. Almost like something is rubbing or scraping or more or less, high pitched kindof sqeak. It stops after like 15 seconds but i noticed it sometimes doing it for a few seconds when i drive down the ride every now and then.

If anyone knows anything it would be a big help to me, thanks and God bless.

Welcome to the Z, and thanks for serving.

Try tightening the belt and see if it helps.

again - welcome to jeepz! you'll like it here! - as for the squeal - check the belt to see if its glazed over (there are some treatments out there - i've even heard toothpast helps to "scuff up" the belt) - also check tension as bounty mentioned - if it does it sometimes while driving (could be the a/c cycling...) then its prob. tension... i know mine does it on occasion when i first start it (i know its slipping by watching my voltmeter) it'll go low then slowly go up as the sqeaking (slipping) subsides... g'luck!

ditto on the belt. Pretty easy to change. I did the toothpaste trick and belt dressing but both only worked as temp fixes. If the belts squeaking it likely is showing its age!

Hey guys! Thanks i'm going to try and fix it this weekend. It was really cool of you guys to reply and help me out. I really appreciate it. I'll update on the fix, I'm going to try and tighten the belt.

thats what we're all here for... helpin out and you'll find there's really no flaming here.... which is why we all stay here - dont ever think there's a stupid question either... (i know i've asked my share! and thought i'd be flamed for it but it never happened...) this has to be the best jeep site on the net for real people and real help.... g'luck and i'm sure we'll hear more from you soon... jeeps arent just a vehicle... they're an adventure!
