wiper improvement?

Any way to improve the windshield wipers on a '89 YJ? Mine go too slow, and not a very big sweep. Not sure if this is normal with these or not, as I haven't had it very long. But there isn't much difference between the two speeds(a little, but not much), and there's quite a bit more room for sweep yet.

Just wondering if there was an upgrade for it in this area.

To gain a larger area of where the wiper blades sweeps across the windshield, you will need to experiment on the lenght of the wiper motor linkage. I don't know if there is a faster wiper motor that will just drop in without doing some mods on the frame. One thing you check thou on the speed issue is the lubrication on the pivot grommets and motor. This might help get the motor moving more freely.

I replaced my 94 YJ wipers with the wiperboy from riptech engineering, and now the arc of the sweep is longer, so I get better visibility (plus the wipers out of the way when they are off). Blades are actually a bit smaller, I think, though...

New windshield, if it is pitted, the best wiper mods in teh world won't help. You can try buffing it also, lots of resto guys do it to try to keep 90,000 year old original glass in their vehicles

Rather than start a new thread, I'll ask this here. Is there any easy way to put intermittent wiper controls on a TJ? Mine just has off, low and high, plus you pull it back to spray washer fluid. Kind of a pain when it's just drizzling.

If the wiring harness was made with the plug installed you probably can. On my 89 Dodge Cummins I bought the switch and the intermittant module. I replaced the "on/off" switch with the new variable one and plugged in the module under the dash. Worked great (still does). Just make sure Chrysler still put the wiring plug in under the dash on the TJ. Best of luck - John
