A friend has a 02 liberty and # 2 cyl lost compression. Anyone know if the 3.7 is know to do this and if there is a common cause?

Cam followers like to come off the lifters. And pistons like to melt. Pull the valve cover off on that side and check the followers

Lost compression?, did you verfy this with a compression tester?. If so, remove the valve cover , check and verify that the rocker arm did not slip off or partially jammed in an akward position that would keep the valves from closing. Check the valve springs and keepers , make sure the springs are not broken. If all that checks out good, perform a cylinder leak down test and determine if the loss of compression is coming out of the exaust, intake, engine crankcase or head gasket.

Ok.. I'll try that.. He told me he had a new Trans installed and as soon as he got it out of the shop it started running bad and the shop said it had no compression in #2, it's got 170000 on the clock..
