Transfer Case question

I have an 86 Cherokee with a 2.8L Chevy engine and a New Process 228A transfer case. Unfortunately, the transfer case is bad and will need to be replaced (It's locked-up and the fluid is gray, with little bits of metal). Does anybody know if the New Process 229 transfer case is interchangeable with the 228 model? They look very similar, but I want to be sure before I look for a replacement. Thanks

My brother has a NP 228 out of the same exact cherokee sitting in his garage and would let it go cheap. He is in Greenwood IN. I am not sure where u are at but we could probably ship it if needed. Just let me know if u need one.

I appreciate the offer, but I'm not ready to buy a replacement yet. At this point, I'm really more interested in knowing if the 228 and 229 are interchangeable. Thanks anyway.
