My 98 Cherokee Sport fan is staying on after I shut the engine off. At first it was just a few second delay now it just stays on. Yesterday I disconnected it but It obviously can't stay that way. I have no idea why this is happening, nothing else appears to be wrong. It is driving me crazy. The dealership was no help.

It stays on as never shuts off?

Most likely either a bad thermostat or a relay is stuck.

I'm surprised the dealership didn't try to sell you a new motor

I'm having this problem too. I've replaced the relay but that didn't fix the problem. After I turn off my Jeep, I have to pull either the relay or the fuse, or sometimes both, to get the fan to turn off. When I pull just the fuse, the fan stops but then restarts when I replace the fuse. I've only been patient enough to wait about a minute before replacing the fuse, but the fan is definitely spinning all the way down. If I pull just the relay, the fan sometimes stops & sometimes keeps running until I pull the fuse too.

My temp gauge is reading normally, so it doesn't seem likely it could be the temp sending unit. Of course, things aren't always what they seem. :)

Anybody got an idea?

Thanks.
